Keep Your Skin Clear While You Travel
Sometimes, traveling can wreak havoc on your skin. The change in climate, irregular sleep schedule due to jetlag, and change in food can put your body through turmoil, revealing itself through your skin. I have this problem sometimes when I travel. I could go months without a breakout and the minute I set foot in a new place, BOOM, an unexpected breakout. Here are my tips for how to keep your skin clear while you travel:
Pack all of your normal skin care items
I’m a big fan of packing light, but leaving important skincare items at home in order to conserve luggage space is a really bad idea. Even if you have a lot of products, bring them. Nothing adds more stress to a trip than trying to combat skin issues in an unfamiliar place that may not sell the products that you need. Having all of your products from home increases the likelihood of avoiding a breakout and being photo ready for all of your travel snapshots.
Wash your face daily
Although the excitement of being in a new destination is completely overwhelming and can distract you from caring for your skin, do not neglect to wash your face, moisturize it daily, and apply sunscreen. Removing dead skin and anything else that may have settled on your skin, whether it be makeup or allergens in the air, is a must.
Take vitamins regularly
Taking multi-vitamins and hair, skin, and nail vitamins can really help your skin to stay clear. Making sure that you’re taking in the proper nutrients is essential to having flawless skin. Taking vitamins on a regular basis ensures that your body is getting some level of proper nutrition, even when you’re unable to maintain a healthy diet while on the road.
Drink lots of water
Okay, so this is not a new, ground-breaking tip, but drinking a lot of water is so important. Often times, finding water to drink when traveling can be a bit of a challenge. In Spain for example, convenient stores and supermarkets are not on every corner as they are here in the states, so staying hydrated was tough.
I now realize the importance of bringing a water bottle with me everywhere I go, which I would highly recommend. That way, if you’re traveling to a place with tap water that is safe to drink, you can fill up your bottle at any time.
I recently bought this Hydro Flask water bottle that I really like because it's sleek and stylish and keeps hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold. Having something like this on hand is essential to keeping your skin clear.
Bring your own face towel from home
I always, always, always bring a face towel from home when I travel. Something about drying my face with a hotel towel gives me the creeps. So, to make sure that my sensitive skin isn’t irritated by unfamiliar chemicals or God knows what else, I pack my own face towel.
Try not to stress out
Suddenly breaking out can be such a headache, and the stress of trying to get rid of pesky pimples only makes them worse. If you tend to stress out over having imperfect skin - relax. Staying calm will actually aid in the healing process. Stay calm and stay clear. Your skin will thank you.
